The New Tyre Labelling Law from 1/11/12!!!

Tyre Labelling has been introduced under EU legislation in order to give consumers more guidance and confidence when buying tyres, allowing them to compare specific criteria on different types of tyres.

Consumers have already seen similar labels in many places already, perhaps most recognisably on various white goods such as fridges / freezers etc.

What will the tyre labels show?

Fuel Efficiency/Rolling Resistance - to give an idea on fuel economy (Scored A to G)

Wet Grip - to give an idea on braking distances (Scored A to G)

External Noise Emissions - to give an idea on external noise of the tyres (Scored in Db rating and 3 volume representations)

On both rolling resistance and wet grip there will be no ‘D’ scores to provide a bigger distinction between good and bad performers.

Who tests the tyres?

The tests are completed by the manufacturers according to specific test criteria that have been established but will be independently audited by an independent agency.

Do all tyres have to carry label information?

No. Some tyres- such as motorbike, racing or vintage tyres – will not carry labels.
